Radiology prior authorization requirements for APWUHP members

To help comply with the American Postal Workers Union (APWUHP) health plan requirements, health care professionals who have patients under this plan will need to submit a prior authorization for high-end radiology services. 

This includes the provider ordering the services as well as the health care professional performing the services. High-end radiology services include, but are not limited to, MRI, CT and PET scans.

Keep in mind, the health care professional who orders the service may not have obtained prior authorization. This means, the health care professional who is performing the services must obtain prior authorization. 

How to verify and submit prior authorizations

To verify whether a radiology service requires prior authorizations or to submit a prior authorization, call UnitedHealthcare Shared Services Clinical Services at 866-569-2064. If we don’t receive prior authorization on radiology codes, it may result in financial penalties.
