Last month, we introduced expanded member benefits and resources available to UnitedHealthcare Medicaid members in Florida. From a monthly over-the-counter medication and supply allowance to housing and food assistance, these benefits are designed to help make health care better for everyone.
We’ve also updated benefits to help patients with mental health illnesses, such as depression, bipolar disorder or schizophrenia, get the care and support they need.
Florida’s Statewide Medicaid Managed Care (SMMC) program recently launched Serious Mental Illness (SMI) specialty plans to address gaps in care. There are multiple SMI plans to select from (varying by county and region) and all are voluntary. Members can decide if they want to stay with their existing Medicaid plan or opt in to a specialty plan with their choice of an enrolling Medicaid managed care organization.
These plans include a dedicated care coordinator that can help members:
Florida’s SMMC determines eligibility. If a member meets SMI criteria, they’ll receive a notification letter from SMMC with enrollment instructions.
